Dick Preston is our leader once again for the Memphis TOS chapter’s field trip to Fort Pillow State Historic Park and nearby Lower Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge. Check out eBird sightings at these birding hotspots here and here.

Do not meet at the park. Meet at 7:30 am on Sunday, September 22 at the Alex Haley Rest Area, 7344 US Highway 51, Henning, TN 38041, just north of Covington. We will caravan from there.

You don’t have to be a MTOS member to particpate, there is no charge, and be sure to bring binoculars.

The 1,642 acre Fort Pillow State Historic Park, located in Lauderdale County on the Chickasaw Bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, is rich in both historic and archaeological significance. The 9,000 acre Lower Hatchie NWR contains a variety of habitats and impressive access to Mississippi River riverfront and sandbar habitats.
