The Migrant and Warbler Archives
The Tennessee Ornithological Society has published two periodicals for decades. Both are fully searchable here — type any species name, location, author, or keyword to find matching pages across every issue.
The Migrant
TOS’s peer-reviewed quarterly journal, published since 1930. Covers bird records, distribution, nesting, and natural history from across Tennessee and the region. Vol. 1 (1930) through the current issue are fully indexed and searchable.
The Tennessee Warbler
The TOS member newsletter, published three times a year (April, August, December) since 1990. Covers chapter news, field trips, conservation updates, and member observations.
How to Search
Type any word or phrase into the search box. Results show the issue, a highlighted excerpt, and a link to open the PDF. When the PDF opens in Chrome or Edge, your search term is highlighted automatically.
A few shortcuts that help:
- Exact phrase — use quotes:
"Bachman's Warbler" - Require a word — add a + sign:
+nesting +bluebird - Exclude a word — add a minus sign:
warbler -yellow - Filter by year — use the From/To fields on the search page
The search covers text extracted from scanned PDFs. On older scans, OCR may occasionally miss a word — if you get no results, try a different word from the same article. PDF highlighting works in Chrome and Edge; use Ctrl+F in other browsers.
About the Archive
The Migrant archive spans more than 90 years of Tennessee ornithology — over 360 issues and tens of thousands of pages. The Tennessee Warbler archive covers more than 30 years of TOS chapter life. Both archives are fully text-searchable thanks to optical character recognition (OCR) applied to every page.
